Big Brain Insights:

  • Vitamin D makes your natural immunity work. A 2007 study found 2,000 IU of vitamin D per day “abolished the seasonality of influenza.”
  • A 2006 study showed no evidence of influence decrease despite the increase of vaccinations by 60%.
  • It is obvious that the innate immune system is what protects people from influenza. During the 1918 flu pandemic (the worst the world has know), there were 5 attempts to transfer flu from the sick to the well. It was attempted on 150 well patients using cough, spit, and breath – none of the well patients got sick.
  • Having a healthy immune system is the most important defense for the seasonal flu or celebrity flu. The innate immune response rules the adaptive immune response: if the innate immune response ignores an invader, one will not make antibodies to that invader. (If you’re interested in learning more on this, a good book to read is: How the Immune System Works, by Loren Sompayrac, Blackwell Science, 2008)
  • Antibiotics tend to destroy the innate immune system
  • You can buy concentrated Vitamin D drops in our office or at a good health food store.
